Trading setup-forming days yourself

A lot of traders buy when the signal is almost there instead of waiting for it to fire. We tested that on two years of TQQQ. Taken together, setup-forming days were a coin flip. But they come in three kinds, and the difference between them is large.

TQQQ share price from the close of each day, August 2024 to July 2026. Samples: 23 days in 14 separate stretches, 84 days in 32, and 19 days in 12.

What that means for you

  • The best kind went up 74% of the time over the next two weeks, and the full signal usually followed within days. Buying it is like getting in a day or two before the system does.
  • The kind to skip fell 79% of the time, by 7% on average. It looks close to a buy, and it's the worst setup in the whole study.
  • The most common kind is a coin flip. Waiting for the real signal costs little.

You can tell the three apart in under a minute on an ordinary daily chart. Premium members get the full playbook: how to spot each kind, how to size and time the trade, and when to get out.

Rules that apply to any manual trade

  • These results are for TQQQ shares, not options. An option adds time decay, the bid/ask spread and changes in implied volatility, so a small move in the shares can still lose money on a short-dated call.
  • Give it time. The good cases played out over about two weeks. An option that expires sooner has to be right fast.
  • Size it as if the option can go to zero, because it can. A manual trade shouldn't be bigger than a BUY CALLS trade.
  • Decide your exit before you buy. Even the best kind usually dipped about 4–5% before it moved.
  • Check the calendar. A Fed decision, CPI report or major earnings can overwhelm any setup. The daily scan holds off around those events; a manual trade doesn't.

All setup-forming days128+1.5%52%
STAY IN CASH days194+4.0%63%

Stay-in-cash days had the best average. They include the sharp rebounds after big drops, which the signal deliberately doesn't chase, because the same days include the worst declines. The signal's job is to avoid the worst stretches, not to catch every rebound, and two years can't show both sides fairly.

What this study can't tell you

  • It covers one two-year stretch. The best and worst kinds rest on 14 and 12 separate episodes: worth taking seriously, not proven.
  • The daily results were rebuilt from past data using the live rules, not taken from posts made at the time.
  • It measures TQQQ shares, not the options you'd actually buy.
  • We compared three kinds of day. Splitting data several ways raises the chance one looks good by luck.

The free Discord posts each day's call near the close. Premium gets it at the open, plus a phone alarm on setup-forming and BUY CALLS mornings.

Results are per option contract, entry to exit, from exchange prices for the contract called; where an entry print was not archived, the result is set by TQQQ's real close and labelled so. They are not any member's account and do not include fees, spreads, taxes or missed fills. Signals published from 2026-09-04 carry a timestamped Discord message id. Past results do not predict future results.

Educational only, not financial advice. This describes what happened historically, not what will happen. Options can lose their entire value.
